One of the most satisfying aspects of doing sports skills videos is getting that email or phone call from an excited athlete or parent sharing the good news that a college has made an offer. I am never under the illusion that the video we produced made it happen. The truth is that the athlete’s skills, potential, academic profile, and personality are the things that won the coach over and led him or her to offer a scholarship or spot on the team.
The goal of the sports skills video is to showcase the athlete’s ability in such a way that a coach or recruiter wants to take a closer look. That closer look may be at a tournament game or it might be an on-campus visit. In order to accomplish this we document what you can do. We have developed a methodology that has been proven to accomplish the goal as long as the athlete’s skill level is high enough to be of interest to a college. There are no camera tricks here. If a softball player cannot run fast, the camera will not speed her up. If a baseball player has trouble with the transfer from the glove to the throwing hand, the camera can’t fix it. If a golfer has a flying elbow, the camera will reveal it, not hide it.
Before deciding to invest the money in a sports skills video, then, the player and the parent have to honestly assess the college potential of the player. If the player has a burning desire to play college sports and has skills that project well to that next level, a video may just be the tool that opens the eyes of a coach or recruiter. If you make that decision that a skills video is right for you or your player, we will create a product that will properly present his or her skills.
This is more than just a business for us. We really get wrapped up in the pursuit of the dream with our clients. We celebrate along with you when your player accomplishes the goal.
